Job description:
West Parkland Gas Co-op (WPG) is a natural gas cooperative in Alberta that was
formed on May 12, 1972. WPG provides natural gas to over 5200 members across
Parkland County, Stony Plain and the Village of Spring Lake and continues to grow.
What will I be doing?
Reporting to the Operations Lead, the Line Locator Technician is responsible for
locating all the WPG underground facilities that are requested to be marked by Alberta-
One-Call and compete the necessary documentation.
- Responsible for managing all Locate access tickets and “mark out” the tickets
using GIS mapping system. - Responsible for attending site of the Locate:Locate the line and mark the line
- Create the drawing on the locate access platform create the picture
- Communicate with the customer confirming if there a line was Located or n
- Complete all required documentation
- Collaborate with the Operations Lead hand to gain additional information or
suppo - Collaborate with the Construction Coordinator for obtaining Crossing Agreements
for third-partie - Responsible for on site management with third-parties to ensure damage
prevention and proper and safe on-site work around the Line occurs. - Responsible for managing any emergency tickets that occur and following
processes and procedures. - Collaborate with Operations during outages and assist operations as required.
- Mandatory participation in an after-hours/on-call rotation may be required during peak
periods or emergencies.
What Do I Need To Succeed?
- High School diploma is required. Previous Line Locating training is preferred.
- A minimum of 1-2 years of Line Locating experience is preferred with GIS system
and mapping experience is preferred. - Locator certification, H2S, First Aid, WHMIS are required.
- Ability to work alone and independently.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with individuals at all levels of
the organization. - Strong customer service skills and experience in managing client queries.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.
- Strong prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management skills to meet
deadlines. - High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and reasoning to identify
underlying principles, reasons, or facts. - Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to work quickly while maintaining
a high degree of quality and accuracy. - Ability to make responsible decision in accordance with prescribed policies and
regulations. - Exhibit strong personal values, integrity and hands-on work habits.
- Ability to problem-solve and consensus build with the client is necessary for
addressing sensitive business problems. - Highly energetic with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally
at all times. - Attention to detail in all areas of work.
- Physical demands: Able to lift 50 lbs (23 kg), walk/stand for extended periods,
and work outdoors year-round with frequent reaching, bending, and
pushing/pulling. - Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) required and a safe driving record; comfortable
driving in rural conditions. - Strong computer skills and ability to work with GIS and MS Office.
